Field report 01Miami market · Hospitality

A hotel Wi-Fi complaint.
A measurable coverage gap.

There were Wi-Fi complaints at a hotel in the Miami market, and corporate involvement was imminent. We went on site with AirWitness to see what was happening in real time.

Walking the site. Watching the signal.

Using AirWitness on site, we could see where the signal cut off as we moved through the property. We could identify where access point placement was contributing to attenuation and leaving coverage short of where it needed to be.

We also found places where the client needed to leave its current access point, but there was no live AP available to connect to next. The gap was visible while we were standing in it.

That gave us something concrete to document and discuss with the people responsible for the network.

A question from the local IT manager.

The local IT manager noticed AirWitness in use and asked what it was and how to get it.

That IT manager is now a beta tester.

A clear finding. A useful handoff.

Our finding was a design and implementation problem. The coverage and placement issues were clearly documented and sent to the right teams for correction.

The next conversation could focus on what needed correcting, with the observations from the site to support it.

“Without the tool we would still be arguing about radio signal and guessing about the network.”— Tom Hardy

That’s the kind of work AirWitness is being built for: helping the person on site explain what the client is experiencing and give the next team something useful to act on.
