# FOX Relay

## Your devices. Your sessions. One workspace.

You know the job: three switches open, a console cable plugged in, a file to move, and a set of notes that somehow ended up in the wrong window.

FOX Relay brings those pieces together. It's a terminal workspace for network engineers who spend their day moving between equipment, sites and the next thing that needs fixing. Connect to the device, keep the context nearby, and get on with the work.

**FOX Relay is in private, invitation-only field testing. It is not available to the general public, and there is no public download.** This is a look at what we're building. Public availability is targeted for **mid-November 2026**, with timing depending on testing.

## Reach the device. Even the old one.

SSH, Telnet, Rlogin and serial belong in the same toolbox. Sometimes the equipment is new. Sometimes it has been quietly doing its job for twenty years and has very different ideas about cryptography.

Relay gives you options for both. Legacy SSH compatibility is an explicit choice, and the session's security indicators help you understand the connection you actually negotiated. Reaching an old switch should be possible when the transport supports it; understanding the risk should be easy.

## Keep the site in view

Save sites and devices, find the connection you need, and move between sessions without rebuilding the setup each time. Recent connections help you pick up where you left off. Session logs preserve the conversation with the device when you need to retrace a step.

The terminal stays the main event. Font, scrollback and keyboard preferences let you make it comfortable for the long session, with command macros and file-transfer tools close by.

## Get the file where it needs to go

Reach for the Files tools when the job calls for SFTP, FTP or a serial XModem transfer. The available options depend on the session and what the device supports, but they live alongside the terminal rather than in another pile of windows.

## Bring the right tool into the conversation

Plugins give Relay more to do without turning every connection into a crowded control panel.

- **LLDP Mapper & Renamer:** follow discovered neighbors and links, review suggested port names, and inspect rename commands before deciding what to apply.
- **Switch Health:** gather supported switch diagnostics and inspect the evidence in a dedicated workspace.
- **Switch Configurator:** bring supported configuration work into the same environment as your device sessions.

Plugin Manager handles available tools. Which plugins and device commands you can use depends on the test build, the plugin and the equipment. Installing a plugin does not make every vendor or model supported.

## A place for the things you haven't filed yet

Scratch Pad keeps quick working notes within reach. Float it beside the terminal when you want more room. It's handy for the port number, the next command to check, or the detail you don't want to lose halfway through a call.

Notes are notes, not a password vault. Keep credentials in the appropriate saved-site controls.

## The same kind of workspace on your laptop

Private test builds exist for Windows x64, Linux x64 and Apple Silicon macOS. Platform features, connection hardware and permissions can differ, and field testing is still ongoing. A build existing for your operating system does not make it a public release.

If you've been invited, follow the installation instructions supplied with your build. Those instructions also cover updates and any permissions needed for your particular platform.

## AirWitness sees the client. Relay reaches the device.

Sometimes the wireless evidence tells you the next step is inside the switch. That's where the two tools fit together: [AirWitness](https://airwitness.net/) helps explain the client's experience; FOX Relay gives you a workspace for the device work that follows.

They solve different parts of the same job, with the same aim: less time juggling tools, more time understanding what's happening.

## Interested? Take a look around.

[See FOX Relay in action](https://airwitness.net/fox-relay/) for real workspace screenshots and a closer look at the tools. Relay is staying with invited testers while we put it through its paces. We're aiming to open it up around mid-November 2026; current access remains by invitation.

Already testing? The [field guide](GUIDE.md) covers connection choices, security indicators, files, plugins and the everyday details.
